To smoke or not to smoke...

Most people are aware of the UK smoke free law covering all public places, pubs, restaurants, places of work etc. Some people have taken to using 'e-cigarettes' as a result and the generally accepted view is that e-cigarettes are not covered by the smoke free laws as they do not contain tobacco. The conclusion reached by many therefore is that they can be used in public venues and the workplace.

Employers are free to decide whether to permit e-cigarettes in the workplace or in a designated area. It is important for employers to ensure that they have a comprehensive smoking policy to address these issues.

This adds to the raft of policies which employers are advised to have in place and to clearly disseminate to all staff.
